A Visit To Bose Institute Darjeeling

A few days ago, I had a wonderful couple guest at our homestay, Prof. Tarun Roy and Prof. Santwana Raychaudhuri, retired from Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata (SINP)
Both were very likable, and we used to enjoy their company here as a family.
Santwana Aunty (as Prof Raychaudhuri became such popular to us) was much eager to visit Bose Institute nearby, so one day, I took them to this workplace of the revered scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose.
Although entry is restricted, we were welcomed inside when Prof Roy referred himself as once a colleague (at SINP) of the ex-director Prof. Shibaji Raha.
We came to know from Yashodhara Roy Madam, present in charge of the Bose Institute, Darjeeling, that Professor Shibaji Raha played a vital role in bringing the Bose Institute in its former glory.
Pleasant inside the surroundings was very natural, peaceful, and well maintained.
Inside the Bose Institute- Museum, there was a lot of information provided regarding the history and findings of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose.
I got fascinated by two of his inventions;
1. Microwave Apparatus Device
2. Crescograph
Microwave Apparatus Device:
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose’s Microwave Apparatus Device was constructed in 1894.
The microwave transmitter and receiver built the core foundation of wireless technology.
This fantastic innovation is now being steadily acknowledged in the West, otherwise being credited to someone else.

Crescograph :
Crescograph is a device for measuring the growth in plants. It was invented in the early 20th century by Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, India’s First Biophysicist, who proved that plants too have life.

According to Yashodhara Roy Madam in present day scenario India invest Lacks and Crores of Rupees to purchase new technologies from Japan and other technologically advanced countries, but Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose was amongst those rare Scientists who designed his own instruments to do his scientific experiments.
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose’s Rooms:
As we went upstairs of the cottage, we could see all the rooms small, wooden, and cozy, being ideal for deep concentration. It was apparent that he lived a very simple life. They were aligned like train bogies. From each room, Kanchenjunga could be visible. The first room was a sitting room with a small fireplace, the second was a bedroom, and the third was a small room with a wardrobe and washroom. Another was the office of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. I was amazed to witness the sofa in front of my eyes, where Rabindranath Tagore used to spend a lot of time.
The entire facility was shown to us by Yashodhara Roy Madam personally, who is the overall in charge of the Bose Institute, Darjeeling.
I still remember some very interesting words said by Yashodhara Roy Madam
“Our people feel very proud of respected Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose addressing that he is from our place / our country, but we should not put boundaries. His contributions are dedicated to the entire world, so we should address him not for limited areas but for the entire world. “
Not to mention, the mobile phones, Wi-Fi, or any other wireless technologies coming into existence are only due to core credit of the invention and findings of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose.

Thank you Tarun dada for your good words..! I am grateful for you have been liking my works.!
Excellent
Thank you Prof. Santwana Aunty
Nicely articulated. That was indeed an era marked with glittering innovations in both theoretical and practical scientific fields. That bygone period can easily be termed as Indian renaissance. Had we been an independent country then, we could easily have 4-5 more noble laureates to pride for.
Thank you so much Sir for your insightful words.! Even though India was not Independent then but I feel amazed with the great people who shaped our present through their great dedication and sacrifices.
